WINE PRODUCERS OF "LES GRAVES DE SAINT-JEAN"
Located in the gorge of the Herault, our village profits from an ideal position for vine cultivation. In fact, for centuries the river has been depositing large pebbles and smaller stones which constitute today the majority of our terrain. In the local area these small stones are known as "les graves". The harvested volumes are naturally low and this encourages a natural concentration of the flavours and sugars. Since 1947, the Wine producers of Saint Jean de Fos have joined together as a co-operative winery choosing the name "Les graves de Saint Jean". Today, our winery produces approximately 40,000 hectolitres of wine; our vineyards extend over 540 hectares. All the wines sold in our winery are bottled at the property. Selected from defined areas, all our vintages are vinified with the greatest care, respecting the best oenological processes to preserve all the natural qualities of our grapes. |

Vineyards and Wines :
The wine producing landscape is very varied; including slopes, terraces and vines planted on old clay pits. The clay that was extracted from these pits is still used by potters to manufacture the famous pottery of Saint Jean de Fos. Today, our range includes wines of vins d'AOC (Coteaux du Languedoc), vins de pays (d'Oc, de l'Hérault and from Saint-Guilhem-le-désert). Defined as red, white and rosé, our vintages are regularly rewarded at wine tasting contests. Our three ranges are as follows : CLAMOUSE: merlot, sauvignon blanc and rosé LES GRAVES: cabernet sauvignon, syrah carignan and casked in oak JEANNE DE FOS: red and white. In year 804, Charlemagne visited his cousin William of Orange, in the village of Saint Jean de Fos. In 2004, celebrations were organised to commemorate this event. For the 1,200 years anniversary, we created the range "Jeanne de Fos". CURIOSITIES : - "Circulades" a typical circular village built around the church of the village. - Chapel Saint Genies de Litenis, XIth century. - Clock tower (Belfry) and old pigeon loft. - Pottery museum. - Cave of Clamouse. - Pont du diable - Saint Guilhem le Désert (à 4km) |
