WINE PRODUCERS OF LEZAN.
A little history... The village of Lézan, known of since Roman times, was rapidly organised into a fortified settlement. The chateau - which gives a good deal of charm to the village square - belonged for a long period to the Claris family, whose owner escaped from Fort Vauban d'Alès during the war of the Camisards (1702 to 1705). Returned to calmer times, Lézan accommodates a rural population. Its livelihood is breeding and diversified cultures, the most precious of which was the sericulture (breeding of silkworms). The opening of the Suez Canal, little by little, ruins this industry, and the vine becomes the dominant activity. The producers merged in 1923 to establish a winery in which the majority of the wine producers of Lézan participate. |

We need to wait half a century to see the foundations of our vineyard established: the traditional grape varieties, making way for more prestigious varieties.
Later, the wine producers of Lézan optimised their wine making processes, by acquiring state of the art equipment; which ensures control at all stages during the fermentation. To the diversity of landscapes and abundance of sunshine which characterises the foothills of the Cevennes, the wine producers of Lézan add passion for work well done which stems from long traditions. . OUR WINES On our 380 hectares of vines we produce nearly 24,000 hectolitres.. We offer in particular a complete range of grape specific wines "vin de pays d'Oc" : - Red: Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon - White : Muscat sec, Chardonnay, Sauvignon et Viognier - Rosé : Grenache The awards below testify to the quality of these wines : * Syrah 2004, gold medal, general agricultural contest of Paris. * Viognier 2004, bronze medal, Gard?s department contest. * Rosé Grenache 2004, bronze medal, valley of the Rhone contest. * Rosé Grenache 2005, silver medal, valley of the Rhone contest. * Muscat sec 2005, silver medal, valley of the Rhone contest. |
